As a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics who is registered with the Commission on Dietetic Registration, I am bound to follow the Code of Ethics for the dietetics profession. It requires that I conduct myself with honesty, integrity and fairness, as well as support and promote high standards of professional practice. I must practice using evidence-based principles and current information.
I have pledged to adopt the Guiding Principles of RDs4Disclosure and am listed as a member on their website.
I have over 25 years of experience in nutrition communications. Before I write or speak, I review the scientific evidence in peer-reviewed journals. As the science evolves and changes, so do my opinions. Over the years, I have worked as a paid consultant and spokesperson to food companies and also taught at the university level.
Every so often, I will accept products, meals or travel from companies and organizations. When I do, or when I represent a company as a paid consultant, I will be transparent in that representation. Also, I will only endorse products or services that I believe in based on my professional judgement.
There are times I allow a student or dietetic intern to develop a blog post. When that is the case, I carefully review and edit it, and include the writer’s name at the bottom of the post.
Currently I serve as a consultant for FoodMASTER.
