I was a free-range kid. Not only did I grow up in the era of being able to run and play all day without supervision, my mother served us good food and expected us to eat it. And we did. No complaining. No demands for different foods if we didn’t like what she’d prepared. We were hungry, we ate our meals and off we went.
Mom was half Greek and my dad was 100% Italian, so I was partially raised on the Mediterranean Diet when it didn’t have a name.
Fast forward to today. I love food. I like to grow it, shop for it, cook it, but especially eat it and serve it to others. The cleanup, not so much.
Today’s diets are different. We’re snacking more and eating a lot of so-called “foodlike substances.” Sometimes I’m guilty of this, too.
This is my first blog post. I’m looking forward to commenting on current research studies, observations at the grocery store, restaurants and other places people eat and will provide tips as I think of them.
